TIMET approaches its manufacturing operations with the environmental impact in mind – both the use of energy, raw materials, process water and other manufacturing resources, and its output of emissions, effluent, and solid waste.
TIMET follows the “think global, act local” mantra, working globally to process more efficiently, conserve resources and minimize non-productive process residual materials. Working with its suppliers, customers and manufacturing sites, TIMET has established programs to recover, recycle and reuse process residuals and scrap materials from manufacturing and downstream processing of its products.
TIMET’s operating sites also develop their own programs to reduce the local environmental footprint, including:
- Treating process waste streams through a water conservation facility and reusing the water
- Reducing emissions from the chlorination process
- Reducing total plant emissions
- Reducing dependence on hazardous materials
- Upgrading and modernizing air emission control units on critical equipment
- Reusing hydraulic oils and recycling all lamps and oils
- Installing high-efficiency electric motors and energy-efficient lamps
- Selling for use by other industries waste materials from the electron beam furnaces and floor sweep materials that can not be reused
- Recycling rechargeable batteries, cell phones, and electronic equipment
- Recycling used batteries, skids, cardboard, paper and other materials
- Installing state-of-the-art, high-efficiency melt furnaces, gas furnaces, gas radiant heaters and air compressors
- Installing new water feed systems, proportional pumping and leak-proof plastic water pipes
Installing insulated roofs, rapid-roll doors and insulated pipes - Investigating alternative energy sources such as wind turbines, photo cells and bio fuel
